CRA Individual Account Registration
Important — Please Read Before Starting
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) now requires all clients to personally authorize their representatives. Due to this change, we are unable to accept new clients who do not have an active CRA Individual Account.
Please carefully follow the steps below to set up your account before engaging our services. Completing this in advance will help avoid delays or the need to restart the process.
Step 1: Access the CRA Website
You must use a cell phone to complete the registration. Click here to access the CRA website.
Choose one of the following sign-in options:
-Sign-In Partner (through your bank), or CRA User ID and password
Step 2: Gather Required Information
Before you begin, make sure you have:
-Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
-A copy of your most recently filed tax return (CRA will ask for a random line amount to verify your identity)
-A piece of government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license)
Step 3: Choose Your Verification Method
For immediate full access, select: “Interac document verification service.”
The alternative option will mail you a security code, which may take several weeks to arrive.
Step 4: Create Your Login Credentials
You will create:
-A User ID
-A password
-Five security questions
Please write down your security answers and keep them in a safe place.
Step 5: Multi-Factor Authentication
Continue following the prompts.
When enrolling in multi-factor authentication, we recommend choosing text message verification rather than the authenticator app or passcode grid.
You will:
-Enter your cell phone number
-Select your preferred language
-Receive a verification text message
Step 6: Identity Verification
You will be asked to upload a government-issued ID (such as your driver’s licence).
Follow the prompts to:
-Upload the front of your ID
-Upload the back of your ID
-Take a selfie to confirm your identity
You will see a message saying “Getting things ready,” followed by “Success.” This confirms your identity has been successfully verified using Interac document verification services.
Step 7: Final Account Setup
Confirm the following information is correct:
-Address
-Contact information
You will then be brought into your CRA account and prompted to add an email address, as required by CRA.
If you have any problems setting up your account, you will need to call CRA: 1-800-959-8281.
Step 8: Next Steps — Authorizing Our Firm
Once you have full access to your CRA Individual Account, please contact our office.
We will then provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to authorize our firm as your representative within your CRA account.
